Event Report
The Department of Child Health Nursing organised a public awareness programme after obtaining permission from the local police station. Sixth-semester B.Sc. Nursing students conducted a role play depicting the physical, emotional, social, and educational consequences of child labour and emphasising children’s rights. Students displayed placards, raised slogans, and interacted with the public. The programme received a positive community response.
Objectives
The programme aimed to create public awareness of the harmful effects of child labour, educate the community about children’s rights to education, health, protection, and a safe environment, encourage collective efforts to eradicate child labour, and promote social responsibility among nursing students.
Highlights
A role play, placard display, awareness slogans, and public interaction conveyed the child-protection message.
Outcomes
The programme increased awareness of child-labour prevention, children’s rights, and education; encouraged nursing-student participation in community outreach; and strengthened community commitment to safeguarding children.
Sustainable Development Goals
The programme contributed to SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth—particularly Target 8.7—and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
Conclusion
Through awareness activities and role play, the programme effectively educated the public about the adverse effects of child labour and reinforced collective responsibility for ensuring a safe, healthy, educational environment for every child.
