Waste Segregation and Plastic Waste Management Campaign

Event Report

The NSS Unit of BGS Institute of Nursing Sciences, Adichunchanagiri University, organized a Waste Segregation and Plastic Waste Management Campaign at Haddinakallu Anjaneya Temple. A total of 20 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme with enthusiasm and discipline. The volunteers accompanied Poojya Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Maha Swamiji while climbing the hill and received his blessings and valuable guidance. After Swamiji’s departure, the volunteers cleaned the temple surroundings and collected scattered waste from the premises. The collected waste was systematically segregated into plastic, paper, glass, metal and other categories. Special attention was given to the collection and proper management of plastic waste. Volunteers also created awareness among visitors and the local community regarding cleanliness, responsible waste disposal and reduction of unnecessary plastic use. The activity provided students with practical experience in environmental protection, teamwork, discipline and community service. The programme promoted cleanliness and environmental responsibility while encouraging sustainable practices in public and religious places. The activity contributed to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13 – Climate Action.
