Event Report

The Sankalpa Jyothi – Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony was organized by the Faculty of Nursing, BGS Institute of Nursing Sciences, Sasyakashi, under Adichunchanagiri University to formally induct first-year nursing students into the nursing profession. The ceremony included the traditional lamp lighting in front of the portrait of Florence Nightingale, administration of the Florence Nightingale Oath, cultural programmes, and inspirational addresses by eminent dignitaries. The event inspired students to uphold the values of compassion, ethics, discipline, and dedicated service as they began their professional journey in nursing.

Objectives

The programme aimed to introduce nursing students to the ideals and responsibilities of the nursing profession, strengthen their commitment to professional ethics through the Florence Nightingale Oath, promote compassion, integrity, discipline, and accountability, and motivate them to provide safe, quality, and patient-centred care while developing a strong professional identity.

Outcomes

The ceremony enhanced students’ understanding of the values, ethics, and responsibilities of the nursing profession. By taking the Florence Nightingale Oath, students reaffirmed their commitment to compassionate and ethical nursing practice, developed greater confidence and professionalism, and were inspired to serve patients, families, and the community with dedication and respect.
